Photographic gun designed by Etienne Jules Marey, 1882 (1956). Marey (1830-1904) was a French physiologist who pioneered the use of photography to record and analyse movement, which led to the invention of cinematography. In 1881, he invented the photographic gun and later he devised the first chronophotograph camera. A print from Things, a volume about the origin and early history of many things, common and less common, essential and inessential by Readers Union, the Grosvenor Press, London, 1956.
