The following is a select list of the most popular forcing varieties. We wish to especially impress upon our patrons the importance of early planting. Many, if not most, failures are caused through late planting ; a vigorous young plant set early in the summer being by far preferable to a large plant set in the fall when the roots have not sufficient time to establish themselves before the plants are expected to produce a crop of bloom. American Beaut7. An excellent rose for forcing ' or open air. The flowers are very double, of a deep crimson color, and very fragrant. Bon Silene. Brilliant carmine rose : a well-known and favorite variety. Catherine Mermet. Bright flesh color, full and beautiful : one of the most lovely of its color. Duchess of Albany. Resembles La France in general appearance, but is larger in size, deeper in color, and of more expanded form. The flowers are of a deep even pink, very large and full, highly perfumed, and in all respects of first quality. The growth of the plant is vigorous, the habit is good, and the flowers, which are thrown tip well above the foliage, are produced in extraordinary profusion. La France. Splendid satin rose, the sweetest of all roses. Madame de Watteville. Creamy white, each petal bordered light rose like a tulip, a lovely color and shape. Madame Cusin. Flowers of medium size, of a rosy purple color, base of petals and centre of flower almost white, one of the prettiest roses grown. Madame Hoste. Another grand Tea rose, and a variety that will certainly become one of the stand- ard sorts for forcing : in color it is of a whitish yel- low; with deep buff yellow centre, large and full: petals are stout, of good substance. Niphetos. Pure white, full, fragrant, magnolia- like petals ; a general favorite. 4 in. pots, 30 cts. each : $3. ?> ' ' 15 ' 1
