Sketch by Major John Andre
Major John Andre (1751-1780) served as a British spy during the American Revolution (1775-1783). He was found guilty of negotiating with Benedict Arnold for the betrayal of West Point and, after a trial by court martial, was found guilty and executed in October 1780 in Tappan, New York. This image is a facsimile of a sketch of the Highlands of the Hudson River that was made by Andre the day before he was executed. His name and the date are in the lower left hand corner.
