During Operation HASTENGS in 1966, a captured Viet Cong was provided water by Staff Sergeant Tong and Corporal Peter J. Buzzanell. SSgt. Tong, an interpreter with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, interrogated the prisoner and learned that nearby Viet Cong units possessed weapons including 60mm mortars and 50 caliber mobile guns. As the questioning took place, the group was fired upon by these exact weapons. This photograph was taken by LCpl. Finnell and is part of the Defense Department's records.
