US President's Science Advisory Board, 1933


First meeting of the US President's Science Advisory Board on the 21st of August 1933. The board was appointed by the executive order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1845). From left to right are: geographer Isaiah Bowman (president of John Hopkins University), experimental physicist Robert Andrews Millikan (California Institute of Technology), physicist and Karl Taylor Compton (President of MIT), Charles Kenneth Leith (President of the Geological Society), astronomer William Wallace Campbell (President of University of California), physicist Frank B. Jewett (president of Bell Laboratories) and paleontologist John Campbell Merriam (president of the Carnegie Institution).
