If the poin- settia is neglected, it is liable to re- taliate suddenly, without giving the grower what might be considered fair warning. It quickly drops its leaves and looks sullen and disreputable. If the grower turns his back to it too long, it is prone to misbehave, and when he faces it again the damage has been done and is irremediable. It is evident that the poinsettias shown in the illustration had no oppor- tunity for such misconduct. They were grown by the Hayashi brothers, of Oak- land, Cal., who formerly were known in the trade as H. Hayashi & Co., but have recently changed the name of their establishment to Hayashi Bros.' A considerable proportion of the plants are made up in pans, shallow boxes and other such receptacles. The Hayashi brothers make a specialty of producing various species of plants, such as poinsettias, cycla- mens, Easter lilies, ferns and rambler roses, for the wholesale holiday market. LOS ANGELES.
