Bathed in early summer evening sunlight on the Renaissance buildings along the Grand Canal in Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The well-known landmark is the dome of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute (Church of Saint Mary of Health). The Church is Roman Catholic and a minor basilica and is built of Baroque architecture, and constructed in 1631 during a massive plaque outbreak that killed many Venetians.
