In the holy cause of temperance Bishop Ryan was a strongadvocate by precept and example. In the spread of religioustruth, the dissemination of a sound and wholesome religiousliterature, he was unwearied. His diocesan paper, the Cathouc Union and Times, felt his everstrong and fruitful support. He recognized the power and utilityof the Catholic press, and he utilized it with everv means in his. ST.
