The violent earthquake in January 2001caused terrible destruction and loss of life in the area of Kutch around the ancient town of Bhuj. Lives and property were devastated as far away as Ahhmedabad. There are countless stories of tragedy and heroism and memories which still painfully linger. However the spirit of the people of Kutch remains indomitable, their vitality and resilience is awesome. The old damaged buildings of Bhuj still retain their charm and are gradually being restored.
