Mate, cookies & friend 2

The 'mate'; is a typical drink of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It is a tea-like infusion made of Yerba mate leaves. The yerba mate (Illex paraguayensis) is a small tree native to the subtropical areas of Eastern South America. The yerba mate leaves are cut, dried and smashed into pieces. The leaves are put in a recipient usually made of a dry and hollow pumpkin or wood. This "cup" is called mate. When filled with leaves and hot water the infusion is drunk through a straw. The photo shows a mate with the straw, a thermos with hot water in it, some cookies and package of yerba mate. All you need to spend a great afternoon with friends chatting and laughing!!!
