Diamond crystal structure and adamantine symmetry, illustration

Diamond crystal structure and adamantine symmetry, illustration. Diamond is an allotrope of carbon. The structure is a three-dimensional network of tetrahedral carbon atoms held together by strong carbon-carbon bonds. The ten atoms coloured blue show the inner adamantine symmetry of the crystal lattice, largely responsible for the hardness and optical properties of diamond.
