A son of Wilham and Sarah (Wilkerson) Mc-Donald, John S. McDonald was born in Duquoin,lUinois, December 3, 1869. His father was a promi-nent lawyer and preacher in southern Illinois duringthe greater part of his active career and he figuredprominently in Republican politics. He was sum-moned to the life eternal in 1877, and his cherishedand devoted wife passed away in 1899. The youngJohn S. was educated in the public and high schoolsof Duquoin and subsequently spent three years inacquiring a musical education, obtaining the samein the Southern Illinois Musical Conser
