Vondelpark Paviljoen (pavilion) now a restaurant/cafe in Vondelpark, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The Vondelparkpaviljoen is a building in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. It was built in 1874-1881 by architect W. Hammer in Italian Renaissance style and equipped with fluted Ionic pilasters, round arched windows and domed turrets. Ten years after the opening came a reception hall and a bowling alley with. It stands at the lowest point of the city (before the annexations of 1921). From 1972 to 2012, it offered shelter to the Filmmuseum. The museum, which for years had lived with other institutions, in their own building could become a major crowd puller. The museum had access to two small cinemas and received more than 150,000 visitors annually. However this pavilion became knows as the Film Museum, the building itself was not up to the task and there was a chronic lack of space. On January 8, 2012 was shown as the closing film of the silent classic Sunrise. Today the outside area is home to a restaurant/cafe. Today this historic building is in use as 'association house VondelCS'.
