Myeongdong is situated in the old part of Seoul, the north of the River Han. This area is always known as a shopping district and a fashionable place to eat and drink. Even after the development of the new part of Seoul, on the back of economic boom, the south of the Han River, it has maintain the reputation as a shopping district. The Northern part of Seoul has royal palaces and markets such as Namdaemun Market which is very popular among not only Koreans but also foreign tourists.
