An early printed photograph showing Hercules fighting Antaeus on an Italian Faience dish. Faience is the British name for any fine tin-glazed pottery on a buff earthenware body. Historically Antaeus would challenge anyone to wrestling matches and remained invincible as long as he remained in contact with his mother, ( the earth ). Antaeus fought Heracles as he was on his way to the Garden of Hesperides as his 11th Labour but was defeated by Hercules who crushed him to death. Antaeus was supposedly king of the city Irassa in Libya
