An early portrait of comedy actor George Grossmith (1847-1912) - English comedian, writer (including Punch magazine), composer, entertainer, author, pianist, actor and singer. Grossmith wrote the comic novel The Diary of a Nobody with his brother Weedon and his known for his comic operas, musical sketches, around 600 songs and piano pieces. He wrote 3 books and many newspapers and magazines articles. In the autumn of 1890, Grossmith gave a Royal command performance for Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. His son was George Grossmith Jr. He died at his home in Folkestone aged 47.
