In 1890, when the extension of theSouth Yuba to Auburn was determinedupon, Spaulding and Engelbright at onceprepared to reconstruct the old ditchfrom Bear Valley to Gold Run, and byDecember, 1891, the work of buildingnew flumes and strengthening the ditchreached that point, under the able man-agement of Frank Godding, assisted byJohn Peters. The early spring of 1892witnessed the starting of the survey forthe new ditch by Mr. Clem Uren, whileactual ditch-digging began at Gold RunJuly , the same year, and ended withthe installation of the sand tank and theupper end of the pipeline across Stam-pede Canyon at Serret town.
