The Anvil Point Lighthouse is built of local Purbeck stone and was completed in1881. The squat lighthouse tower is only 12 metres tall, but because it is situated on a high cliff top the light is 45 metres above the high water mark. It is positioned to give a waypoint for vessels passing along the English Channel coast.
