Uterine septum, image 4 of 4. This endoscope view inside the uterus shows completed surgery within the organ. The surgical instruments have cut through a septum, or internal wall, that divided the organ in two. This disorder arises when the reproductive organs develop abnormally in the embryo. Once diagnosed, the septum is often removed surgically from women of child-bearing age in order to prevent miscarriage. For a sequence showing the removal of the septum, see images M850/675-678.
