Mr. Goddard haspersistently kept the large yet earlymaturing type in mind. Selection inthe field each year has tended to pro-duce uniformity and fixity oT Dreedcharacteristics. Silver King dent cornwas successfully shown at the WorldsFair in New Orleans in 1884 and againin Chicago in 1886. Its value as aheavy yielder for the northern locali-ties has led Professor R. A. Moore, ofthe Wisconsin Agricultural College, toResults show its adaptability. Breed Characteristics. It is a pure white corn, very large ears for 440 Fig. 156(b).SILVKR KING. northern sections. The butts andtips have been bred to completerilling. The grain is very deep forsuch an early corn. Its maturityis assured every year. EARLY MASTODON. The Early Mastodon corn originatedwith C. S. Clark, of Huron Count}^ Ohio, to meet the demand for alarge eared yet early maturing variety. It is reckoned as a loo-daycorn and has a very wide field of tested adaptability. CHASES WHITE DENT. History. *The original stock of Chases White Dent cornhas been grown in southeastern Nebraska for 30 years or more,and was known as the Tucker corn. This old strain of cornis quite popular today in some localities.
