Taking the advantages of the service transmission brakeas they appeal to the user: First, there is its great powerwith small exertion; second, there is extreme ease of ad-justment, and third, there is much easier replacementwhen relining becomes necessary. Against these unquestioned good points there are threeconventional objections: That the brake is dangerouslypowerful, that it over-stresses the universal joints andthat it puts excessive loads on the bevels in the rear axle.
