The operation has so tarproven satisfactory au<i the machines run sparkless both at min-imum ami maximum loads. The of the dynamos is 98per cent, and they run continuously on full load with a rise intemperature iu the armature not to exceed degrees C. The steam and exhaust pipes are carried beneath the flooriu the basement. The main steam pipe is of steel and fitted with. MAP OF INTEKURBAN LINE. a Separator, dry steam being delivered to the cylinders. Ejectorcondensers are provided, the condensing water being obtainedfrom a storage reservoir at the rear of the station. The engineroom has a 5-ton traveling crane. The switchboard consists of five slate panels, two for the gen-erators, two for the feeders and one for the testing instrumentsand station switches. By means of suitable switches any feedermay be connected to a booster, by which the voltage at thefeeding point on the line is kept automatically constant. Thisenables the dynamos to run parallel and all the feeders to beof the same size. Each of the three boosters is a four-pole motor connecteddirect to a four-pole dynamo on the same bed-plate. The motoris connected to the bus-bars, and the speed may be varied tosuit the voltage required by means of a resistance inserted inthe shunt windings. With the booster the storage batteries maybe charged independently of the line.
