The Rho Ophiuchi star formation region in the constellation of Ophiuchus. This wide-field view shows a spectacular region of dark and bright clouds, forming part of a region of star formation in the constellation of Ophiuchus (The Serpent Bearer). The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is a dark nebula of gas and dust. This cloud is one of the closest star-forming regions to the Solar System. This picture was created from images in the Digitized Sky Survey 2. Release date February 3, 2016.
