CESI lightning research laboratory. High voltage laboratory at CESI (the Italian Experimental Electrotechnical Centre), in Milan, Italy. A bolt of artificial lightning is seen at lower right. At CESI, experiments are carried out to test the effect of artificial lightning strikes on various objects and materials. Lightning research has been carried out at CESI since 1970. CESI also maintains a network of lightning sensors in Italy, the SIRF (Sistema Italiano Rilevamento Fulmini), which was formed in 1994.
