Harding, a former newspaper publisher, Lieutenant Governor of Ohio and US Senator, died suddenly from a heart attack in August 1923. He is often ranked among the worst US Presidents because of scandals and corruption allegations surrounding his administration although his reputation has risen slightly in recent years.
