First catapult post delivery, 1929, (1932). In 1927, the German Transport Ministry wanted to speed up trans-Atlantic mail delivery, and came oup with a system of floatplanes which were launched by catapult from liners, enabling mail to be delivered to shore while the liners were still 500-800 km from port. The first catapult fight was launched from the Norddeutscher-Lloyd liner 'Bremen' on 22 June 1929. Eugene and Moritz Garbáty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
