The Red Well, Whitehills Banffshire

Smallest north-east village to retain its own fishing fleet and leisure marina. Historic remains include ruined Boyne Castle and the Red Well, originally built by the Romans. The spring purportedly provides a health-giving iron-rich or ferruginous spring water. Early in the 17th century, chalybeate water was said to have health-giving properties and many people have promoted its qualities.
