Relationship research. US anthropologist and human behaviour researcher Helen Fisher carrying out a brain scan on a test subject. Her research has shown that 10 percent of older couples have activity in the parts of the brain that are activated when individuals fall in love. This indicates that feelings of love can endure in some couples. The brain areas are the ventral tegmental area and the caudate nucleus. The former includes a type of dopamine-producing cell called A10.
