Detail of a market stall in the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou

Ait Benhaddou is one of most striking of all the Kasbahs along Morocco's '1000 kasbahs' valley. The mud red walls rise high over the surrounding landscape, giving those standing on the topmost towers an important advantage over those who would dare to attack the town. Ait Benhaddou has been used in numerous movies including Ridley Scott's 'Gladiator' and Oliver Stone's 'Alexander.' Because of its unique architecture and historical import Ait Benhaddou is now recognised as a World Heritate Site by the international organisation, UNESCO.
