He served at FortHamilton to December 3, 1861 ; and was on regimentalrecruiting service to June, 1862, when lie was returnedto duty at Fort Hamilton, New York, until August,[862. He was then ordered to the field, serving withthe Fifth Corps, Army of the Potomac, and was engagedin the battles of second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericks-burg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg.
