Three aspen trunks are highlighted by the surrounding yellow blossoms of Northern mule-ears

Three aspen trunks highlight the profusion of blooming mule's ears in a mountain meadow in northern Colorado. Both plants were used medicinally by Native Americans, and both have edible portions, although nearly all part of the aspen are quite bitter, and the leaves of mule's ears are poisonous.
