For a city of its size Amsterdam has a remarkably long list of societies and associations of thebeneficial and social character. The masons, odd fellows, and in fact all of the older orders are wellrepresented, and in addition there are very many flourishing societies of a religious, literary or socialnature connected with the various churches.
