Frost melting in Winter sunshine in a peat gully. Fairbrook Naze on the northern edge of Kinder Scout, Seal Edge in the distance, England, UK
This image is exclusive to Alamy. This view is along part of the northern edge of Kinder Scout. This gully of eroded peat, with its winter sun and hard frost, leads down to Fairbrook. Rising up on the other side is Seal Edge. Kinder Scout is a peat bog moorland plateau on gritstone in the north of Derbyshire in England. It rises to a height of 636 metres (2,087 ft) and is situated at the southern tip of the Pennines which run from Derbyshire to Scotland. In 1932 the then private moorland was the target of a mass trespass eventually leading to the creation of National Parks throughout Britain. Below the southern edges of Kinder Scout is the village of Edale where the Pennine Way, a long walk to Scotland, starts (or ends). Walking on Kinder Scout can be difficult, even dangerous in poor weather (which is not infrequent) but remains popular with walkers.
