MOD-1 lunar lander, built by Armadillo Aerospace, USA, being inspected by an engineer during the X-Prize Foundation's Lunar Lander Challenge. The amateur-built MOD-1 is powered by a computer controlled liquid oxygen and ethanol rocket. The winner of the Lunar Lander Challenge must be able to take off with a payload, reach an altitude of 50 metres, hover for 90 seconds then land on a target 100 metres away. The flight must then be repeated in reverse within a two and a half hours. Photographed in 2007 at Holloman Airforce Base, New Mexico, USA.
