To gather the faithful and organize a newcongregation, he selected the Rev. M. J. Brophy. That clergyman found the Plymouth Baptist Churcli,on West Fifty-first Street, between Ninth and TenthAvenues, for sale, and, deeming it adapted for the com-mencement of the new parish, pmchased it, in January,1876, for the sum of twenty-four thousand five hundreddollars.
