Rainbow image on the Boston Gas Tank is the world's largest copyrighted art work
Painted by Corita Kent, the rainbow image on the Boston Gas Tank is the world's largest copyrighted art work. Originally painted on a second, older tank to the east in 1971, it was transferred to its current location before the first tank was torn down in 1992. The tanks have changed hands twice, from Boston Gas to Keyspan in 2000, and from Keyspan to National Grid in 2007. It gathered some controversy over an alleged depiction of Ho Chi Minh's face (visible in the left side of the blue stripe). On the other hand, the yellow stripe is said to resemble Fred Flinstone looking southward.
