The Church ofSt. Nicholas, Lynn, had miseri-cordes (some of which are nowin the Architectural Museum)which have several monogramsand rebuses. Unfortunately, they are somewhat involved, andthere is at present no key bywhich to read them. The least doubtful is that given has a ton rebus which will admit, however, ofperhaps three different renderings. It is most likely Thorn-ton,less so Bar-ton, and still less Hop-ton, all Lincolnshire names. l(*\ A^M ^-^^3e J x Nta 4. \ X1A a Pnr \s Wm.
