Howard Skipper, American Cancer Researcher
Howard Skipper (1915-2006), American cancer researcher. Skipper's work with nitrogen mustard during WWII in the US Army's Chemical Warfare Service led him to conclude that there was a potential healthy use of these compounds. After the war Skipper joined the Southern Research Institute (SRI) to conduct cancer research. Here he developed laboratory animal models to study the effects of chemicals on cancer cells, which would eventually lead to modern chemotherapy treatments.
