For one year he was principal of theMazon high school and for a similar period heldthe principalship of the Ash ton (Iowa) 1888 he graduated from the law departmentof the University of Michigan. While in thatschool he also pursued a course in political sci-ence. He was one of the charter members ofMichigan Alpha fraternity of Phi Delta Thetaand has always been a loyal f rat. A constant student of his profession and im-bued with the firm belief that to be learned inthe law one must know the history of the real civi-lization of nations, he pursued a thorough coursein the civil law and the German classics and com-pleted a course of graduate work in jurisprudenceat the Chicago Law School, from which he re-ceived the degree of Doctor of Civil Law. is classed as a student of the School ofPhilosoph
