Outside of the Grays-Nicholls cricket bat headquarters and factory in the East Sussex village of company dates from 1975.
Grays-Nicholls headquarters and cricket bat making factory in the east Sussex village of Robertsbridge. Bats have been made here for over 160 years. The present company was formed when HJ Gray and Sons meged with LJ Nicholls to form the present part of Sussex has lots of watery ground, excellent for growing willow, the wood required for cricket bats. The present willow, Salix alba caerulea is sourced from further afield on land owned by the company and butts of the trees taken to the factory in Robertsbridge. They are split into 29 inch lengths, inspected, sorted and dried before the manufacturing process can begin. The name Gray Nicholls is known throughout the cricketing world for the quality of its bats.
