The traveling motion is of specially flexible type, sothat the drive is unaffected by the extension or compressionof the springs. Both axles of one bogie are driven by m:ansof steel gearing and universal joints, and means are provid-ed for disconnecting the traveling mechanism when themachine is required to be hauled by train. The engines are of a special type, being totally enclosedwith the working parts running in oil. The cylinders arefitted with a radial reversing motion, and gear is providedfor performing the several functions, namely, propelling themachine, raising lowering the leaders, and hoisting the pilesand monkey. The boiler is of rthe locomotive type, and is de-signed for a working pressure of no lb. per square the leaders are lowered the machine clears the com-panys construction gauge for rolling stock. A specialhand winch is fitted on the pile-driving frame so that pilescan be dealt with in the event of any part of the motive mech-anism being temporarily out of order, while the slewing gearcan also be disconnected and worked by manual labor.
