Then and afterwards it seems to havebeen a place of considerable trade, with two weeklymarkets and two annual fairs, the privilege of levying 457. These are all things of the past; butEarlsferry still is governed by a chief magistrate, abailie, a treasurer, and six councillors, and has its newtown-hall (1872), a branch of the National Bank, alocal savings bank, a gas company, and a public annual value of real property was £924, lis. in1882, when the municipal constituency numbered 45,whilst the corpoiation revenue for 1881 was £86.
