( cm), Sculpture, This Buddhist savior, Padmapani the ‘Lotus-bearer’, belongs to a tradition of majestic metal icons produced in western and central Tibet in workshops under a cross-current of influences. The original lineage to which this work belongs would appear to be a series of spectacular bodhisattva icons produced in western Tibet in the 1000s, under the patronage of the Guge kingdom, overlaid with Indian influences from both Kashmir and the Pala regions of eastern Indian
