Judge Ridley served as chancellor until the outbreak of the Warof Secession in 1861 and even until the surrender in 1865. He was anardent Secessionist and had five sons in the Confederate army, allnoted for their gallantry. During almost all the War he was an exilefrom home on account of Federal oppression.
