Vinegar is poured on a foot that received stings from a Portuguese Man of War

Aftermath of being stung by Portuguese Man of War (Physalia physalis), the stinging nematocysts and tentacles stick to skin and dive gear. Although not recommended, white vinegar seems to allay some of the discomfort. The Man of War is a jelly-like marine invertebrate of the family Physaliidae. It is not a true jellyfish, but a colonial organism, made up of many minute animals called zooids.
