This replacement of the dorsal crest by a distinctive pattern of scalation appearing in both sexes and in juveniles as well is a constant character in galeritus. In the other groups, females and young individuals do not have a dorsal crest nor does their middorsal row of scales resemble that of galeritus since there is not the same striking variation in size of the scales nor the same well-defined periodicity (Fig. 3)..
