Sucre, Bolivia - 21 May 2018 Laguna Colorada (red lagoon) is aptly named. Its startling red colors derive from both dissolved red mineral deposits and algae; these contrast with blinding white white borax deposits. Located in the Bolivian altiplano, close to Chile, this is one of South America's most beautiful salt lakes. Its flamingo and llama visitors also add to its charms. Viewed in glowing late afternoon light, the lagoon and its fauna present an Eden-like vision of paradise on Earth.
