1959 pink Cadillac Coupe De Ville

The front view of the 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, whose elaborate grille is often compared to a harmonica, gleams with rows of sumptuous chrome bumpers or fenders, and bristles with clusters of headlamps. In the late 1940s and 50s General Motors design chief Harvey Earl pushed his styling features of startling tailfins and huge chrome bulleted bumpers to their limit in the Cadillac range, culminating in the 1959 Coupe de Ville, the car that came to be synonymous with ‘rock and roll’ America. This was the automobile of choice for every movie and rock star of the period, but the sheer ostentation of these features proved too much for the buying public and Earl’s successor Bill Mitchell toned things down rapidly in subsequent years. But to most people the Coupe de Ville still remains the classic American automobile.
