ECG heart monitor being worn by a patient. The device (lower left) hangs on a loop worn round the patient's neck, and receives data from the two electrocardiogram electrodes (blue, one behind device, one at centre right) attached to the patient's chest. The electrodes detect electrical activity in the heart muscle. This heart monitor is designed to monitor the heart for arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). Because arrhythmia can be an infrequent event, the monitor is designed to be able to record continuously for up to eight days. The data can then be downloaded and studied. This model is the Evolution 3 from Novacor. Photographed in 2005.
