In 1204, however, An-jou was reunited to France by Iiailip Augustus, who wrested it from thefeeble John Lackland. In 1246 the province was given by Louis IX. tohis brother Charles, afterwards King of the Two Sicilies. It next passedI0 the house of Valois, assigned as an apanage to Louis, sou of Kin^John II.
